MORRISTOWN HIGH SCHOOL IS ONE COMMUNITY
Morristown High School pulled out all the stops during the CBS New York morning broadcast on November 15, 2024. Through a nomination from the Morris Educational Foundation, MHS was selected to be featured among other high schools in the tri-state area as its November "Class Act."
CBS anchor Chris Wragge visited MHS in October to interview students and staff and capture the amazing work occurring at the school including the school’s students, clubs, and achievements, showcasing MHS as a model of excellence in academics, athletics and equity and inclusion.
To encourage students from all classes to attend the live broadcast and pep rally, Superintendent Dr. Anne Mucci, approved the District to provide early morning transportation for the normal bus routes, and the MEF provided branded Morristown High School: One Community t-shirts to the first 250 students to arrive plus a light breakfast for all.
The “Early” morning broadcast inside the MHS gymnasium featured more than 450 students and 45 staff and administration who arrived before 5 am. One student was so excited he showed up at 3:15 am, beating the CBS New York crew for set-up.
MHS Broadcasting students also showed their commitment by arriving before the CBS New York crew to capture behind-the-scenes video and interviews for Colonial Corner News! Watch their broadcast by clicking the image below, which they also produce in Spanish.
Motown pride was bursting through the screen in both live and pre-taped segments showing its lively students and staff. Many posters were waved proclaiming students’ love for MHS, while the marching band, cheerleaders, drill team and Mo the Colonials mascot kept the energy high throughout the two-hour broadcast. And the "Motown Rumble” made its CBS New York debut!
Alumni-athletes Ali Ferrara (‘15) and Joe Goreyb (‘75) had the opportunity to share why they came home to support MHS athletics through coaching and give-back efforts.
Chris Wragge confirmed it was “the biggest and best Class Act feature yet” since its launch in February of 2023. But don’t take our word for it, click the image below to view the broadcast and decide for yourself! To view specific topics, reference the timestamps throughout the broadcast below:
