Walking the Same Hallways - the Bellias Family

The hallways of Morristown High School have a way of holding memories. They echo with the footsteps of generations—students chasing dreams, teachers shaping futures, and families cheering from the same worn bleachers. For the Bellias family, those halls were more than brick and mortar; they were a thread connecting decades of ambition, values, and pride.

The First Generation of MHS alumni was Peter Bellias (although his name was misspelled in the yearbook as “Bellis”).  Peter played both football and baseball and graduated with the Class of 1938. 

Peter’s three sons went on to follow in his footsteps, making up the Second Generation of MHS alumni. The oldest, George Bellias, was a member of Boys State and the 1963 undefeated football team and received his diploma in 1965. A leader on and off the field, George would return years later as a teacher and football coach, guiding young athletes under the same Friday night lights that once shone on him. Among many other contributions to the school community, George started the MHS Heritage Club during his tenure. 

Four years after his brother, Jim Bellias carved his own mark. He was a member of Boys State, Key Club, played football and, as captain, battled his way to second place in the state regional wrestling tournament - a testament to grit and determination that became family lore. Jim was in the graduating class of 1969. 

The third and last student of this generation was Robert Bellias. He was a member of the ski, tennis, soccer and wrestling teams. Robert was also part  of Key Club and the Cobbonian staff and graduated in 1975, 

And now on to Generation #3!

Jim’s three children followed. His oldest, Mark Bellias, played football under the guidance of his coach - Uncle George. He was a member of the ski team and president of the Future Business Leaders of America and graduated in 1995. 

Just two years behind Mark, Laura Bellias joined the Class of 1997. While at MHS Laura was captain of the girls’ soccer team, participated in school musicals, lacrosse, ski team and many clubs, in addition to being a PGC leader and member of the National Honor Society.

And last but not least of the Jim Bellias offspring to attend Morristown High was Jeffrey Bellias.  Jeff kept the family name alive while competing on the lacrosse field, ski team and as a PGC leader and member of Boys State.  Jeff received his diploma in 1999. 

But, there’s more…in 1999 - just prior to Jeff’s graduation - Kathy Bellias (wife of Jim and mother of Mark, Laura and Jeff) began working as an administrative assistant in the Main Office of the high school. Retiring in 2013, she kept the Bellias name on the rosters for a few more years. 

Five years later Generation #4 made an appearance. The last name may be different but the Bellias blood flows through their veins!

Laura Bellias Yurek contributed the next three graduates to the legacy. 

Benjamin Yurek, a member of the Marching, Jazz and Concert Bands,  fencing team and a PGC leader, graduated in 2022.  

Anna Grace Yurek (who had the dubious honor of being a member of the freshman class that started high school with all remote classes due to the COVID 19 pandemic) was a PGC leader, member of the National Honor Society, performed in musicals, participated in x country, track and many clubs. Anna Grace picked up her diploma in 2024. 

The final chapter ends with Nicholas Yurek, a fellow fencer like his brother and a member of the Model UN and the Italian Honor Society, who proudly walked across the stage at Mennen Arena in June of 2025. 

From classrooms that sparked values to bleachers that roared with cheers from parents and students alike, Morristown High is more than a school - it is a legacy. A place where generations of the Bellias family shared a silent bond across time, each leaving footprints for the next to follow.
